These terms and conditions apply to the Chronicles app (hereby referred to as "Application") for iOS devices, created by Leon Grimmeisen (hereby referred to as "Service Provider") as a freemium service.

By downloading or using the Application, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully before using the Application.

License

The Application and all associated trademarks, copyright, and intellectual property rights remain the property of the Service Provider. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Application on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, translate, or create derivative versions of the Application, nor extract or redistribute the machine learning models it downloads.

Your journal content (recordings, transcripts, and entries) is yours. The Service Provider claims no rights to it and, by design, has no access to it.

Free Tier and Purchases

The Application offers 3 free journal entries. Continued use beyond that requires one of the following purchases, processed by Apple through the App Store:

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your App Store account settings. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. Refunds are handled by Apple according to App Store policies; the Service Provider cannot issue refunds directly. Prices are shown in the Application and may vary by region. The Service Provider may change prices for future purchases; changes never apply retroactively to a completed lifetime purchase or a current subscription period.

Device Requirements and Model Download

The Application requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, as its on-device AI depends on hardware capabilities of these devices. On first launch, the Application downloads a speech-recognition model of approximately 600 MB; a Wi-Fi connection is recommended. The Service Provider does not guarantee the Application will function on unsupported devices or modified versions of iOS.

AI-Generated Content

The Application uses on-device artificial intelligence to transcribe speech and generate entry titles and summaries. AI output may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. Transcripts and summaries are provided for personal journaling convenience and should not be relied on as verbatim records. The original audio recording remains available for reference. The Application is not a medical, therapeutic, or mental-health service and does not provide advice of any kind.

Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for your device and your data. Because all journal data is stored locally (and optionally in your personal iCloud), the Service Provider cannot recover data that is lost through device loss, deletion, uninstalling the Application, or failure to maintain a backup. Enabling iCloud backup and periodically exporting your entries is strongly recommended.

Availability, Updates and Termination

The Service Provider may update, modify, or discontinue the Application at any time without notice. Because the Application runs on-device without server dependencies for its core features, existing installations will generally continue to function; however, the Service Provider does not guarantee indefinite compatibility with future iOS versions. The Service Provider may terminate this license if you breach these terms. Upon termination, you must stop using and delete the Application.

Disclaimer of Warranty and Limitation of Liability

The Application is provided "AS IS" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service Provider shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of data, arising from your use of or inability to use the Application. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including statutory rights of consumers in your country of residence.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which you reside.

Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
